Founded in 2014 by bunch of young individuals led by Saurav Palodhi, it was not an easy decision for us to start a theatre group and make it survive in a time when a major shift had already begun with the advent of social media and other platforms which started changing the way people around the world communicate and voice their opinion.
It was our strong conviction that theatre is a tool that can help us to socio-politically connect to the masses led to our first ever completely autogenous production “Buddhijibi” written and directed by Saurav Palodhi on 10th May 2014 at the Academy of fine Arts, Kolkata. The appearance of famous actor Mir Afsar Ali in the play ensured that the first push was strong enough for us as the newborn group to sail through the unpredictable waves of time in future.
Though the journey was not smooth since then, still we grew and the theatre group became a way of life for the Team Ichheymoto and numerous productions were staged subsequently in the following years. Till now, we have staged 32 plays. Some of the notable productions of our group are – ‘Unsent Letters’ written by Smaranjit Chakraborty and acted by famous actor and theatre practitioner Turna Das, “Nataktar Naam Ki?” written by Anurag Roy Chowdhury and acted by Saurav Palodhi himself , famous actors Turna Das and Neel Mukherjee and other team members which brought our group critical acclamation from the theatre fraternity and the play got selected in Bharat Rang Mahotsav,2016 organized by Nation School of Drama, New Delhi, and also selected in 8th Theatre Olympics, 2018.
Ebong O”, “Stone Titkiri, “C/O EKLATI”, “Prolaper Moto”, “Captain Hurrah”, “Mantu o Marx”, “STONE 3”, “BIRANGANA KABYA” are some of the lot that our Team Ichheymoto has staged over the last 7 years. Our one of the latest productions “Ghum Nei” originally written by Utpal Dutt has attained a special place in the viewer’s heart. It was the love of our viewers for this play which helped us bag 4 Awards in a national platform like Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) in 2019. Even during Covid-19 pandemic, we didn’t stop living theatre. Our newest production “KITTANKHOLA” is successfully running since last 1 year. “KITTANKHOLA” written by SELIM AL DEEN and adapted by Pritam Roy, Directed by Saurav Palodhi , which brought our group critical acclamation from the theatre fraternity and the play got selected in Bharat Rang Mahotsav,2024 organized by Nation School of Drama, New Delhi, and also selected in BAHUROOPI NATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL (RANGAYANA, MYSORE), 2024.
“HENRY KOTHAY” adapted from Clifford Odets’s “Waiting for Lefty” is our new production.
Producing and staging new plays are not our only goal. We conduct regular training sessions/workshops for students of any age group to impart an idea about theatre acting, direction, design, lighting etc. to them. Our workshop faculty includes famous personalities from theatre fraternity like – Debesh Chattopadhyay, Chandan Sen, Shantilal Mukherjee, Daminee Benny Basu, Bimal Chakraborty, Rajeswari Nandy, Soumen Chakraborty, Saurav Palodhi, Mir Afsar Ali, Bindia Ghosh, Kaushik Chattopadhyay, Sujan Neel Mukherjee, Goutam Halder, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Sohini Sengupta, Anirban Bhattacharya, Suranjana Dasgupta, Arna Mukhopadhyay, Ankita Majhi, Turna Das, Sangramjit Sengupta to name a few.
